Sorry to hear about Tim. He is one of my favorite Spokesmen. I had the pleasure to meet him at Interbike, and he was very gracious. Get well soon Tim!
Like everyone else, I am keeping Tim in my thoughts and prayers. I am glad to hear that he is recovering and I look forward to hearing him again on the Spokesmen soon.
Just to confirm what Carlton was speculating, the San Diego velodrome is a concrete track. When Blue Squirrel said Tim “hit the boards” I think he was just referring to a track surface in general. In this case, unless I am mistaken, Tim actually hit the concrete.
To confirm, San Diego Velodrome is an outdoor concrete track, he hit the boards along the side of the track ( the rail ) while involved in a sprint.
Glad to hear he is on the mend. It scared pretty much everyone of us out on the track. We at the Velodrome can’t wait for him to make a quick and complete recovery.
Get well soon.
Re: tire inflation and rolling resistance
Idon’t think the tire test you mentioned were in the Rivendell Reader; I think it was in Jan Heine’s Bicycle Quarterly! These tests are ongoing, and may expand to include more real-world factors in tire performance.

Articles start in Vol 3, but are appearing more often, especially Vol. 4 & 5, and later. Back issues are available and worth it. It’s the only bike magazine I actually study. The Rivendell readers are fun and thought provoking, but Jan is onto some really good ideas, and is keeping a very regular publishing schedule. I hope more people become aware of Bicycle Quarterly, and if you don’t already subscribe I think you will enjoy it.
You guys are gonna make me cry again. Thank you- to everybody- for all the very kind words and wishes. I’ll be back- I promise that!
Thanks for comment about the tats Carlton- you and my mom think I’m cool at least. I have that going for me. 😉
It was a great show and I wish I could’ve been a part of it. If it didn’t hurt so much to type, I’d comment more… but I’ll be back later.
Sea Otter, Velibe, Hutchison (tubeless), Rivendell Reader/ Grant Peterson and the April Fool’s stuff… damn I missed a good show!
Hi guys – how pitiful is this? Tim, who had such a trauma, listened and commented before I did? Oh, I need to pick it up…geez.
Great show, as usual! David – thanks for adding in my message…that was sweet. Carlton, 99.4 miles….c’mon, you rode the century!
Oh, and check out Carlton’s great Bike Week event at his kids’ school!

Bravo!
Bill – Yes, my mistake. It was in Bicycle Quarterly. I did a piece on the tyre tests in BikeBiz mag but not on the .com so couldn’t find a quick fact quick enough.
Tim – your mum thinks your tats are cool? Cool.
Donna – thanks on both counts.
